The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any prominent prize-giving event nears, one notices a demand to include of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand remains most pressing and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories actually cover numerous genres, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked in 2021
  • Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
